Metal Products Production and Consumption for 2 months 2019 in Ukraine

According to Association UKRMETALURGPROM, for 2 months of 2019 Ukrainian steelmakers had produced 3.08 Mt of metal products (99.3% to the same period of 2018) of which, according SE Derzhanalytinform, up to 2,71 Mt (or 88.0%) had been exported. For the same period of 2018 the share of export was 84.8% (2.64 Mt with the total metal products production up to 3.11 Mt).

 

The semi-products’ share in the total export for 2 months 2019 was 47.33% that is noticeably higher than within Jan-Feb of 2018 (43.19%). The share of flat products for 2 months 2019 exceeds this indicator for the same period of 2018 (33.35% and 31.91% respectively); the share of long products in the total export for 2 months 2019 is significantly lower than for the same period of 2018 (19.12% and 24.90% respectively).

 

The total domestic demand for metal products within 2 months 2019 was 555.9 Kt, of which 186.9.4 Kt or 33.6% had been imported. For the same period of  2018 the domestic consumption was 663.1 Kt of which 193.1 Kt or 29.1% were imported. Therefore, for 2 months 2019 the domestic demand for metal products had reduced on 16.2% comparatively to the same period of 2018, whereas the import component had reduced insignificantly (-3.2%).

 

The peculiarity of the metal products import structure for 2 months 2019 is the noticeable domination of flat products over long products (54.25% and 42.11% respectively), whereas within the same period of 2018 the long products share was noticeably higher than the flat products share (49.87% and 45.66% respectively).

 

Main markets of the Ukrainian steel products, according to SE Derzhanalytinform, for Jan-Feb of 2019 are EU-28 (34.7%), African countries (17.2%) and other Europe including Turkey (12.5%)

Among main steel importers for 4 months 2019, the first position belongs to CIS (54.4%), second to EU-28 (18.2%), third – to Asian countries (17.9%).
