Metal Products Production and Consumption for 5 months 2020 in Ukraine
According to Association UKRMETALURGPROM, for 5 months of 2020 Ukrainian steelmakers had produced 7.43 Mt of metal products (93.8% to the same period of 2019) of which, according to ETR-Spectr Ltd, up to 6.21 Mt (or 83.5%) had been exported. For the same period of 2019, the share of export was 86.6% (6.86 Mt with the total metal products production up to 7.92 Mt).
The semi-products’ share in the total export for 5 months 2020 was 49.74% that is higher than within Jan-May of 2019 (45.38%). The share of flat products for 5 months 2019 is somewhat lower than for the same period of 2019 (32.05% and 34.00% respectively)/ The same picture is for long products as well, 18.21% for 5 months 2020 to 20.62% for 5 months 2019.
The total domestic demand for metal products within 5 months 2020 is 1659.7 Kt, of which 434.7 Kt or 26.2% had been imported. For the same period of 2019, the domestic consumption was 1607.3 Kt of which 412.4 Kt or 33.8% were imported. Therefore, for 5 months 2020 the domestic demand for metal products had increased on 3.26% comparatively to the same period of 2019, but the import component share had decreased on 7.6%.
The peculiarity of the metal products import structure for 5 months 2020 is the some dominating of long flat products over long products (50.98% and 47.20% respectively); within the same period of 2019 the domination of flat products over long products was more noticeable (52.94% and 41.73% respectively).
Main markets of the Ukrainian steel products, according to ETR Spectr Ltd, for Jan-May of 2020 are EU-28 (31.1%), Africa (14.8%) and other Europe (14.1%)
Among main steel importers for 5 months 2020, the first position belongs to CIS (39.1%), second to EU-28 (26.1%), third – to Asia (18.0%).
