Ukraine in the World Ferrous Production in January 2020

Pig Iron

According to Worldsteel, for first month of 2020 steelmaking countries of the world had produced 118.38 Mt of the pig iron, of which 110.51 Mt by BFs and 7.87 Mt as DRI. This exceeds the analogue period of 2018 (115.70 Mt) on 2.31%.

The first place belongs to China, steelmakers of which in January 2020 had produced 72.53 Mt that exceeds the same period of 2019 (68.45 Mt) on 5.94%. The share of the Chinese pig iron in the world production for Jan 2020 is 61.3%.

Iran (2.74MT or 113.2% to Jan 2019) moved up from the 7th position to 6th overtaking Brazil, that shifted down to the 7th position (2.15 Mt or 87.2%).

Positions of other leading countries are same as before.

Ukraine occupies the 10th position among 40 world pig iron producers (1.73 Mt or 96.7% to Jan 2019).

Steel

The steel world production in the first months of 2020 is 154.44 Mt that is on 2.12% more than for Jan 2019 (151.23 Mt).

China is a leader of the world steel production as well – Chinese steelmakers had produced 84.27 Mt that exceeds the steel production in China in the same period of 2019 (78.59 Mt) on 7.20%. The share of China in the world steel production is 54.6%.

Turkey (3.01 Mt or 117.3% to Jan 2019) moved up from 9th to 7th position, and Iran (2.89 Mt or 146.9%) that in Jan 2019 occupied 12th position, now occupies 8th position. Germany (2.85 Mt or 82.3%) moved down from 7th to 9th position, Brazil (2.68 Mt or 88,9%) – from 8th to 10th position and Taiwan (1.70 Mt or 85.4%) – from 10th to 13th position. Vietnam (1.53 or 87.6%) occupies now the 14th position, replacing Mexico (1.38 Mt or 84.1%).

Among 64 world steelmaking countries, Ukraine shifted from 13th to the 12th position (1.84 Mt or 99.6% to Jan 2019).
