Metal Products Production and Consumption in Ukraine in Jan-Oct 2024
According to Association UKRMETALURGPROM, in Jan-Oct of 2024 Ukrainian steelmakers had produced 5264 Kt of metal products (120.6% to the same period of 2023), of which according to the State Customs Service of Ukraine, it was exported 3682 Kt or 69.9%. For the same period of 2023, the share of export was 54.9% (2398 Kt with the total metal products production up to 4365 Kt).
The semi-products’ share in the total export in Jan-Oct 2024 was 46.31% that is a bit more to Jan-Oct 2023 (44.87%). The share of flat products in Jan-Oct 2024 is somewhat higher to the same period of 2023 (39.35% and 37.07% respectively). The share of long products in Jan-Oct 2024 is lower significantly to the same period of 2023 (14.34% in 2024 and 18.06% in 2023).
The peculiarity of the metal products import structure in Jan-Oct 2024, as well as earlier, is a significant domination of flat products over long products (79.50% and 18.93% respectively); in Jan-Oct 2023, the domination of flat products over long products was noticeable as well (80.51% and 18.62% respectively).
The total domestic demand for metal products in Jan-Oct 2024 is 2617.7 Kt, of which 1035.7 Kt or 39.25% had been imported. For the same period of 2023, the domestic consumption was 2906.4 Kt of which 939.4 Kt or 32.42% were imported. Therefore, in Jan-Oct of 2024 the domestic demand for metal products had reduced on 9.93% comparatively to the same period of 2023, and the import component share had raised on 6.83%.
Main markets for the Ukrainian steel products, according to the State Customs Service of Ukraine, in Jan-Oct 2024 are EU-27 (70.1%), Africa (11.1%) and other Europe (7.6%).
Among main steel importers in Jan-Oct 2024, the first position belongs to the other Europe (49.9%), second to EU-27 (28.2%), third – to Asia (20.4%).
