According to Worldsteel, in Jan-Dec 2023 steelmaking countries of the world had produced 1406.69 Mt of the pig iron, of which 12861.54 Mt by BFs and 120.15 Mt as DRI. This is 1.13% more than in Jan-Dec 2022 (1391.01 Mt).

The first place belongs to China, steelmakers of which in Jan-Dec 2023 had produced 871.01 Mt that is more than in Jan-Dec 2022 (864.96 Mt) on 0.70%. The share of the Chinese pig iron in the world production in Jan-Dec 2023 is 61.9%.

Ukraine (6.00 Mt or 93.93% to Jan-Dec 2022) remains on 16^th position among 40 world pig iron producers.

Steel

The steel world production in Jan-Dec 2023 is 1849.73 Mt that is of 0.02% less than in Jan-Dec 2022 (1850.12 Mt).

China is a leader of the world steel production as well – Chinese steelmakers had produced 1019.08 Mt that is higher than their steel production of Jan-Dec 2022 (1018.00 Mt) on 0.11%. The share of China in the world steel production is 55.1%.

Ukraine (6.23 Mt or 99.4% to Jan-Dec 2022) remains on 23^rd position among 71 world steel producers.
