Pig Iron

According to Worldsteel, in Jan-May 2022 steelmaking countries of the world had produced 585.97 Mt of the pig iron, of which 540.59 Mt by BFs and 45.38 Mt as DRI. This is 5.57% less than in Jan-May 2021 (620.50 Mt).

The first place belongs to China, steelmakers of which in Jan-May 2022 had produced 360.87 Mt that is less than in Jan-May 2021 (383.50 Mt) on 5.90%. The share of the Chinese pig iron in the world production in Jan-May 2022 is 61.6%.

Ukraine (4.15 Mt or 46.7% to Jan-May 2021) occupies the 12th position among 40 world pig iron producers.

Steel

The steel world production in Jan-May 2022 is 781.82 Mt that is of 6.26% lower than in Jan-May 2021 (844.74 Mt).

China is a leader of the world steel production as well – Chinese steelmakers had produced 435.02 Mt that is less than their steel production of Jan-May 2021 (476.47 Mt) on 8.70%. The share of China in the world steel production is 54.9%.

Ukraine (4.24 Mt or 47.2% to Jan-May 2021) occupies 18th position among 64 world steel producers.
