Pig Iron

According to Worldsteel, in Jan-Apr 2024 steelmaking countries of the world had produced 584.57 Mt of the pig iron, of which 533.76 Mt by BFs and 50.81 Mt as DRI. This is 1.80% less than in Jan-May 2023 (595.25 Mt).

The first place belongs to China, steelmakers of which in May 2024 had produced 361.13 Mt that is lower than in Jan-May 2023 (375.01 Mt) on 3.70%. The share of the Chinese pig iron in the world production in Jan-May 2024 is 61.8%.

Ukraine (2.84 Mt or 120.77% to Jan-May 2023) raised from 15^th to 14^th position among 40 world pig iron producers.

Steel

The steel world production in Jan-May 2024 is 793.12 Mt that is of 0.09% less than in Jan-May 2023 (793.91 Mt).

China is a leader of the world steel production as well – Chinese steelmakers had produced 438.61 Mt that is less than their steel production of Jan-May 2023 (444.84 Mt) on 1.40%. The share of China in the world steel production is 55.3%.

Ukraine (3.14 Mt or 131.23% to Jan-May 2023) remains on 22^nd position among 71 world steel producers.
