According to Association UKRMETALURGPROM, for 8 months of 2019 Ukrainian steelmakers had produced 12.52 Mt of metal products (102% to the same period of 2018) of which, according to ETR-Spectr Ltd, up to 10.64 Mt (or 85.0%) had been exported. For the same period of 2018 the share of export was 82.1% (10.08 Mt with the total metal products production up to 12.28 Mt).

The semi-products’ share in the total export for 8 months 2019 was 45.78% that is a bit higher than within Jan-Aug of 2018 (43.94%). The share of flat products for 8 months 2019 is a bit lower than for the same period of 2018 (33.65% and 34.64% respectively); the share of long products in the total export for 8 months 2019 is lower as well than for the same period of 2018 (19.58% and 21.42% respectively).

The total domestic demand for metal products within 8 months 2019 was 2830.4 Kt, of which 953.4 Kt or 33.7% had been imported. For the same period of 2018 the domestic consumption was 3141.5 Kt of which 948.5 Kt or 30.2% were imported. Therefore, for 8 months 2019 the domestic demand for metal products had reduced on 9.90% comparatively to the same period of 2018, but the import component share had slightly increased (+3.5%).

The peculiarity of the metal products import structure for 8 months 2019 is the noticeable dominating of flat products over long products (55.44% and 40.94% respectively); within the same period of 2018 shares of long and flat products were practically equal (48.62% and 48.36% respectively).

Main markets of the Ukrainian steel products, according to ETR Spectr Ltd, for Jan-Aug of 2019 are EU-28 (34.5%), African countries (18.8%) and Middle East (11.4%)

Among main steel importers for 8 months 2019, the first position belongs to CIS (51.0%), second to Asian countries (19.2%), third – to EU-28 (17.8%).
