Metal Products Production and Consumption for 8 months 2023 in Ukraine
According to Association UKRMETALURGPROM, for 8 months of 2023 Ukrainian steelmakers had produced 3.41 Mt of metal products (76.00% to the same period of 2022), of which according to Expert-Scientific Council of UAVtormet, it was exported up to 1,79 Mt or 52.6%. For the same period of 2022, the share of export was 80.3% (3.60 Mt with the total metal products production up to 4.48 Mt).
The semi-products’ share in the total export for 8 months 2023 was 43.59% that is same to Jan-Aug of 2020 (44.21%). The share of flat products for 8 months 2023 is noticeably lower than for the same period of 2022 (34.92% and 38.20% respectively). The share of long products for 8 months of 2023 is noticeably higher than for the same period of 2022 (21.50% in 2023 and 17.60% in 2022).
The total domestic demand for metal products within 8 months 2023 is 2322.0 Kt, of which 706.5 Kt or 30.43% had been imported. For the same period of 2022, the domestic consumption was 1206.5 Kt of which 324.7 Kt or 26.91% were imported. Therefore, for 8 months of 2023 the domestic demand for metal products had increased on 92.46% comparatively to the same period of 2022, but the import component share had increased on 3.51%.
The peculiarity of the metal products import structure for 8 months 2023 is a significant domination of flat products over long products (75.41% and 24.50% respectively); in Jan-Aug 2022, the domination of flat products over long products was a bit lower but noticeable as wee (59.04% and 39.27% respectively).
Main markets for the Ukrainian steel products, according to ESC UAVtormet, for Jan-Aug of 2023 are EU-27 (85.5%) and other Europe (7.1%).
Among main steel importers for 8 months 2023, the first position belongs to other Europe (38.6%), second to EU-27 (38.4%), third – to Asia (20.6%).
