Metal Products Production and Consumption for 9 months 2019 in Ukraine
According to Association UKRMETALURGPROM, for 9 months of 2019 Ukrainian steelmakers had produced 14.09 Mt of metal products (102% to the same period of 2018) of which, according to ETR-Spectr Ltd, up to 11.67 Mt (or 82.8%) had been exported. For the same period of 2018 the share of export was 81.1% (11.22 Mt with the total metal products production up to 13.83 Mt).
The semi-products’ share in the total export for 9 months 2019 was 45.95% that is higher than within Jan-Sept of 2018 (43.78%). The share of flat products for 9 months 2019 is a bit lower than for the same period of 2018 (33.77% and 34.85% respectively); the share of long products in the total export for 9 months 2019 is lower as well than for the same period of 2018 (20.28% and 21.38% respectively).
The total domestic demand for metal products within 9 months 2019 was 3501.8 Kt, of which 1075.8 Kt or 30.7% had been imported. For the same period of 2018 the domestic consumption was 3694.2 Kt of which 1078.2 Kt or 29.2% were imported. Therefore, for 9 months 2019 the domestic demand for metal products had reduced on 5.2% comparatively to the same period of 2018, but the import component share had slightly increased (+1.5%).
The peculiarity of the metal products import structure for 9 months 2019 is the noticeable dominating of flat products over long products (55.94% and 40.81% respectively); within the same period of 2018 the domination of flat products over long products was less significant (49.38% and 47.50% respectively).
Main markets of the Ukrainian steel products, according to ETR Spectr Ltd, for Jan-Sept of 2019 are EU-28 (34.1%), African countries (17.3%) and Middle East (11.9%)
Among main steel importers for 9 months 2019, the first position belongs to CIS (48.3%), second to EU-28 (19.6%), third – to Asian countries (18.3%).
