Ukraine in the World Ferrous Production in Jan-Sept 2020

Pig Iron

According to Worldsteel, for 9 months of 2020 steelmaking countries of the world had produced 1028.86 Mt of the pig iron, of which 966.88 Mt by BFs and 61.98 Mt as DRI. This is 2.58% lower to the same period of 2019 (1056.15 Mt).

The first place belongs to China, steelmakers of which in Jan-Sept 2020 had produced 665.48 Mt that exceeds the same period of 2019 (641.10 Mt) on 3.80%. The share of the Chinese pig iron in the world production for Jan-Sept 2020 is 64.7%.

Positions of other leading countries are same as before.

Ukraine (15.17 Mt or 98.0% to Jan-Sept 2019) occupies the 9th position among 40 pig iron producers.

The decrease of the global pig iron production is stipulated, first of all, by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Steel

The steel world production in Jan-Sept 2020 is 1347.44 Mt that is of 3.22% lower than for Jan-Sept 2019 (1392.25 Mt).

China is a leader of the world steel production as well – Chinese steelmakers had produced 781.59 Mt that exceeds their steel production of the same period of 2019 (748.14 Mt) on 4.47%. The share of China in the world steel production is 58.0%.

Turkey (25.93 Mt or 102.6% to Jan-Sept 2019) moved up to 7th position, shifting Germany down (25.73 Mt or 84.3%) to 8th position.

Positions of other leading countries are same as before.

Ukraine (15.33 Mt or 93.5% to Jan-Sept 2019) occupies 13th position among 62 world steel producers.
