Metal Products Production and Consumption for 9 months 2023 in Ukraine
According to Association UKRMETALURGPROM, for 9 months of 2023 Ukrainian steelmakers had produced 3.93 Mt of metal products (83.00% to the same period of 2022), of which according to Expert-Scientific Council of UAVtormet, it was exported up to 2,14 Mt or 54.4%. For the same period of 2022, the share of export was 79.9% (3.78 Mt with the total metal products production up to 4.73 Mt).
The semi-products’ share in the total export for 9 months 2023 was 43.16% that is almost same to Jan-Sept of 2020 (44.05%). The share of flat products for 9 months 2023 is somewhat lower than for the same period of 2022 (36.58% and 37.83% respectively). The share of long products for 9 months of 2023 is noticeably higher than for the same period of 2022 (20.25% in 2023 and 18.11% in 2022).
The total domestic demand for metal products within 9 months 2023 is 2604.9 Kt, of which 818.9 Kt or 31.44% had been imported. For the same period of 2022, the domestic consumption was 1350.0 Kt of which 401.0 Kt or 29.70% were imported. Therefore, for 9 months of 2023 the domestic demand for metal products had increased on 92.96% comparatively to the same period of 2022, but the import component share had increased on 1.73%.
The peculiarity of the metal products import structure for 9 months 2023 is a significant domination of flat products over long products (75.48% and 24.45% respectively); in Jan-Sept 2022, the domination of flat products over long products was noticeable as well (62.57% and 36.06% respectively).
Main markets for the Ukrainian steel products, according to ESC UAVtormet, for Jan-Sept of 2023 are EU-27 (84.0%) and other Europe (6.8%).
Among main steel importers for 9 months 2023, the first position belongs to other Europe (38.9%), second to EU-27 (38.5%), third – to Asia (20.3%).
