Metal Products Production and Consumption in Ukraine in Jan-May 2025
According to Association UKRMETALURGPROM, in Jan-May of 2025 Ukrainian steelmakers had produced 2057 Kt of metal products (97.6% to the same period of 2024), of which according to the State Customs Service of Ukraine, it was exported 1541 Kt or 61.5%. For the same period of 2024, the share of export was 65.4% (1680 Kt with the total metal products production up to 2568 Kt).
The semi-products’ share in the total export in Jan-May 2025 was 32.23% that is significantly lower to Jan-May 2024 (46.79%). The share of flat products in Jan-May 2025 is higher significantly to the same period of 2024 (46.59% and 40.30% respectively). The share of long products in Jan-May 2025 is higher noticeably to the same period of 2024 (20.18% in 2025 and 12.92% in 2024).
The peculiarity of the metal products import structure in Jan-May 2025, as well as earlier, is a significant domination of flat products over long products (76.83% and 21.24% respectively); in Jan-May 2024, the domination of flat products over long products was significant as well (82.09% and 16.12% respectively).
The total domestic demand for metal products in Jan-May 2025 is 1557.8 Kt, of which 591.8 Kt or 37.98% had been imported. For the same period of 2024, the domestic consumption was 1360.8 Kt of which 472.8 Kt or 34.74% were imported. Therefore, in Jan-May 2025 the domestic demand for metal products had increased on 14.48% comparatively to the same period of 2024, and the import component share had raised on 3.24%.
Main markets for the Ukrainian steel products, according to the State Customs Service of Ukraine, in Jan-May 2025 are EU-27 (82.0%), other Europe (8.4%) and CIS (6.9%).
Among main steel importers in Jan-May 2025, the first position belongs to other Europe (57.7%), second to EU-27 (23.5%), third – to Asia (18.3%).
