According to Association UKRMETALURGPROM, for 6 months of 2021 Ukrainian steelmakers had produced 9.63 Mt of metal products (106.57% to the same period of 2020), of which according to V.S.K.GROUP, it was exported up to 7,84 Mt or 81.4%. For the same period of 2020, the share of export was 82.2% (7.43 Mt with the total metal products production up to 9.03 Mt).

The semi-products’ share in the total export for 6 months 2021 was 46.39% that is lower than within Jan-June of 2020 (49.04%). The share of flat products for 6 months 2021 is noticeably higher than for the same period of 2020 (37.95% and 32.88% respectively). The share of long products for 6 months of 2021 is lower than for the same period of 2020 (15.66% in 2021 and 18.08% in 2020).

The total domestic demand for metal products within 6 months 2021 is 2254.6 Kt, of which 468.6 Kt or 20.78% had been imported. For the same period of 2020, the domestic consumption was 2135.7 Kt of which 531.7 Kt or 24.90% were imported. Therefore, for 6 months of 2021 the domestic demand for metal products had increased on 5.57% comparatively to the same period of 2020, but the import component share had decreased on 4.11%.

The peculiarity of the metal products import structure for 6 months 2021 is a significant domination of flat products over long products (55.61% and 42.15% respectively); in Jan-June 2020, the domination of flat products over long products was less significant (53.47% and 44.84% respectively).

Main markets for the Ukrainian steel products, according to V.S.K.GROUP, for Jan-June of 2021 are EU-27 (32.8%), other Europe (23.3%) and South America (10.5%)

Among main steel importers for 6 months 2021, the first position belongs to CIS (42.5%), second to EU-27 (22.9%), third – to other Europe (17.9%).
