Metal Products Production and Consumption in Ukraine in January 2025
According to Association UKRMETALURGPROM, in January of 2025 Ukrainian steelmakers had produced 480.2 Kt of metal products (107.2% to the same period of 2023), of which according to the State Customs Service of Ukraine, it was exported 286.1 Kt or 59.6%. For the same period of 2024, the share of export was 88.4% (400.3 Kt with the total metal products production up to 453.0 Kt).
The semi-products’ share in the total export in January 2025 was 28.21% that is two times lower to January 2022 (55.65%). The share of flat products in January 2025 is higher significantly to the same period of 2024 (54.35% and 33.55% respectively). The share of long products in January 2024 is higher noticeably to the same period of 2024 (17.44% in 2025 and 10.80% in 2024).
The peculiarity of the metal products import structure in January 2025, as well as earlier, is a significant domination of flat products over long products (86.50% and 10.78% respectively); in January 2024, the domination of flat products over long products was significant as well (83.90% and 15.16% respectively).
The total domestic demand for metal products in January 2025 is 297.1 Kt, of which 103.0 Kt or 34.67% had been imported. For the same period of 2024, the domestic consumption was 137.8 Kt of which 85.1 Kt or 67.76% were imported. Therefore, in January 2025 the domestic demand for metal products had increased on 115.61% comparatively to the same period of 2024, but the import component share had reduced on 27.09%.
Main markets for the Ukrainian steel products, according to the State Customs Service of Ukraine, in January 2025 are EU-27 (69.6%), other Europe (12.4%) and Africa (7.7%).
Among main steel importers in January 2025, the first position belongs to other Europe (61.3%), second to EU-27 (24.7%), third – to Asia (13.8%).
