Pig Iron

According to Worldsteel, in Jan-March 2024 steelmaking countries of the world had produced 345.95 Mt of the pig iron, of which 317.86 Mt by BFs and 28.09 Mt as DRI. This is 0.72% less than in Jan-March 2023 (348.46 Mt).

The first place belongs to China, steelmakers of which in Jan-March 2024 had produced 213.39 Mt that is lower than in Jan-March 2023 (219.76 Mt) on 2.90%. The share of the Chinese pig iron in the world production in Jan-March 2024 is 61.7%.

Ukraine (1.59 Mt or 132.09% to Jan-March 2023) raised from 16^th to 15^th position among 40 world pig iron producers.

Steel

The steel world production in Jan-March 2024 is 469.06 Mt that is of 0.47% more than in Jan-March 2023 (466.86 Mt).

China is a leader of the world steel production as well – Chinese steelmakers had produced 256.55 Mt that is less than their steel production of Jan-March 2023 (261.52 Mt) on 1.90%. The share of China in the world steel production is 54.7%.

Ukraine (1.69 or 136.58% to Jan-March 2023) remains on 23^rd position among 71 world steel producers.
