Metal Products Production and Consumption for 9 months 2020 in Ukraine

According to Association UKRMETALURGPROM, for 9 months of 2020 Ukrainian steelmakers had produced 13.71 Mt of metal products (97.2% to the same period of 2019) of which, according to ETR-Spectr Ltd, up to 11.31 Mt (or 82.5%) had been exported. For the same period of 2019, the share of export was 82.7% (11.67 Mt with the total metal products production up to 14.11 Mt).
The semi-products’ share in the total export for 9 months 2020 was 50.67% that is higher than within Jan-Sept of 2019 (45.78%). The share of flat products for 9 months 2019 is a bit lower than for the same period of 2019 (32.23% and 33,77% respectively). The share of long products is noticeably lower than for the same period of 2019 (17.10% in 2020 and 20.28% in 2019).
The total domestic demand for metal products within 9 months 2020 is 3297.6 Kt, of which 894.6 Kt or 27.1% had been imported. For the same period of 2019, the domestic consumption was 3516.8 Kt of which 1075.8 Kt or 30.6% were imported. Therefore, for 9 months 2020 the domestic demand for metal products had reduced on 6.2% comparatively to the same period of 2019, but the import component share had decreased on 3.5%.
The peculiarity of the metal products import structure for 9 months 2020 is a noticeable domination of flat products over long products (56.29% and 42.51% respectively); within the same period of 2019 the domination of flat products over long products was more significant (55.94% and 40.81% respectively).
Main markets of the Ukrainian steel products, according to ETR Spectr Ltd, for Jan-Sept of 2020 are EU-28 (27.3%), Asia (16.9%) and other Europe (14.2%)
Among main steel importers for 9 months 2020, the first position belongs to CIS (35.8%), second to EU-28 (24.4%), third – to Asia (22.5%).
