Pig Iron

According to Worldsteel, in Jan-May 2025 steelmaking countries of the world had produced 583.28 Mt of the pig iron, of which 529.78 Mt by BFs and 53.50 Mt as DRI. This is 0.25% less than in Jan-May 2024 (584.77 Mt).

The first place belongs to China, steelmakers of which in Jan-May 2025 had produced 362.74 Mt that is lower than in Jan-May 2024 (363.10 Mt) on 0.10%. The share of the Chinese pig iron in the world production in Jan-May 2024 is 62.2%.

Ukraine (3.01 Mt or 105.94% to Jan-May 2024) remains on 14^th position among 40 world pig iron producers.

Steel

The steel world production in Jan-May 2025 is 783.96 Mt that is of 1.34% less than in Jan-May 2024 (794.58 Mt).

China is a leader of the world steel production as well – Chinese steelmakers had produced 432.63 Mt that is lower than their steel production of Jan-May 2024 (439.09 Mt) on 1.70%. The share of China in the world steel production is 55.1%.

Ukraine (3.06 or 97.51% to Jan-May 2024) shifted down from 21^st to 22^nd position among 71 world steel producers.
