Pig Iron

According to Worldsteel, in January 2025 steelmaking countries of the world had produced 114.68 Mt of the pig iron, of which 105.36 Mt by BFs and 9.32 Mt as DRI. This is 2.28% less than in January 2023 (117.35 Mt).

The first place belongs to China, steelmakers of which in January 2025 had produced 70.37 Mt that is lower than in January 2024 (72.71 Mt) on 3.22%. The share of the Chinese pig iron in the world production in January 2024 is 61.4%.

Ukraine (0.595 Mt or 107.23% to January 2023) occupies 14^th position among 40 world pig iron producers.

Steel

The steel world production in January 2025 is 151.39 Mt that is of 4.40% less than in January 2024 (158.37 Mt).

China is a leader of the world steel production as well – Chinese steelmakers had produced 81.91 Mt that is lower than their steel production of January 2024 (86.78 Mt) on 5.61%. The share of China in the world steel production is 54.1%.

Ukraine (0.61 Mt or 112.28% to January 2024) occupies 21^st position among 71 world steel producers.
