Metal Products Production and Consumption in Ukraine in Jan-July 2024
According to Association UKRMETALURGPROM, in Jan-July of 2024 Ukrainian steelmakers had produced 3728 Kt of metal products (128.4% to the same period of 2023), of which according to the State Customs Service of Ukraine, it was exported 2405 Kt or 64.5%. For the same period of 2023, the share of export was 51.3% (1490 Kt with the total metal products production up to 2903 Kt).
The semi-products’ share in the total export in Jan-July 2024 was 46.90% that is equal to Jan-July 2023 (46.11%). The share of flat products in Jan-July 2024 is noticeably higher to the same period of 2023 (39.83% and 34.77% respectively). The share of long products in Jan-July 2024 is lower significantly to the same period of 2023 (13.26% in 2024 and 19.13% in 2023).
The peculiarity of the metal products import structure in Jan-July 2024, as well as earlier, is a significant domination of flat products over long products (79.38% and 19.04% respectively); in Jan-July 2023, the domination of flat products over long products was noticeable as well (78.83% and 20.13% respectively).
The total domestic demand for metal products in Jan-July 2024 is 2034.6 Kt, of which 711.6 Kt or 34.97% had been imported. For the same period of 2023, the domestic consumption was 2001.2 Kt of which 588.2 Kt or 29.39% were imported. Therefore, in Jan-July of 2024 the domestic demand for metal products had increased on 1.67% comparatively to the same period of 2023, and the import component share had raised on 5.58%.
Main markets for the Ukrainian steel products, according to the State Customs Service of Ukraine, in Jan-July 2024 are EU-27 (74.3%), Africa (8.8%) and other Europe (7.6%).
Among main steel importers in Jan-July 2024, the first position belongs to the other Europe (47.1%), second to EU-27 (29.8%), third – to Asia (21.2%).
