Pig Iron

According to Worldsteel, in Jan-Aug 2024 steelmaking countries of the world had produced 937.28 Mt of the pig iron, of which 854.58 Mt by BFs and 82.70 Mt as DRI. This is 2.28% less than in Jan-Aug 2023 (959.17 Mt).

The first place belongs to China, steelmakers of which in Jan-Aug 2024 had produced 577.70 Mt that is lower than in Jan-Aug 2023 (603.66 Mt) on 4.30%. The share of the Chinese pig iron in the world production in Jan-Aug 2024 is 61.6%.

Ukraine (4.73 Mt or 121.11% to Jan-Aug 2023) remains on 13^th position among 40 world pig iron producers.

Steel

The steel world production in Jan-Aug 2024 is 1251.07 Mt that is of 1.54% less than in Jan-Aug 2023 (1270.68 Mt).

China is a leader of the world steel production as well – Chinese steelmakers had produced 691.41 Mt that is less than their steel production of Jan-Aug 2023 (715.01 Mt) on 3.30%. The share of China in the world steel production is 55.3%.

Ukraine (5.27 Mt or 130.79% to Jan-Aug 2023) raised from 21^st to 20^th position among 71 world steel producers.
