Pig Iron

According to Worldsteel, in Jan-May 2026 steelmaking countries of the world had produced 569.15 Mt of the pig iron, of which 522.03 Mt by BFs and 47.12 Mt as DRI. This is 2.79% less than in Jan-May 2025 (585.48 Mt).

The first place belongs to China, steelmakers of which in Jan-May 2026 had produced 354.71 Mt that is lower than in Jan-May 2025 (366.06 Mt) on 3.10%. The share of the Chinese pig iron in the world production in Jan-May 2026 is 62.3%.

Ukraine (2.99 Mt or 99.44% to Jan-May 2025) raised up from 14^th to 13^th position among 40 world pig iron producers.

Steel

The steel world production in Jan-May 2026 is 773.15 Mt that is of 1.52% less than in Jan-May 2025 (785.12 Mt).

China is a leader of the world steel production as well – Chinese steelmakers had produced 415.53 Mt that is lower than their steel production of Jan-May 2025 (432.39 Mt) on 3.90%. The share of China in the world steel production is 53.8%.

Ukraine (2.88 or 93.92% to Jan-May 2025) remains on 23^rd position among 71 world steel producers.
