Metal Products Production and Consumption for 6 months 2020 in Ukraine
According to Association UKRMETALURGPROM, for 6 months of 2020 Ukrainian steelmakers had produced 9.03 Mt of metal products (95.3% to the same period of 2019) of which, according to ETR-Spectr Ltd, up to 7.43 Mt (or 82.3%) had been exported. For the same period of 2019, the share of export was 85.6% (8.11 Mt with the total metal products production up to 9.47 Mt).
The semi-products’ share in the total export for 6 months 2020 was 49.04% that is somewhat higher than within Jan-June of 2019 (46.99%). The share of flat products for 6 months 2019 is a bit lower than for the same period of 2019 (32.88% and 33.24% respectively)/ The same picture is for long products as well, 18.08% for 6 months 2020 to 19.78% for 6 months 2019.
The total domestic demand for metal products within 6 months 2020 is 2131.7 Kt, of which 531.7 Kt or 24.9% had been imported. For the same period of 2019, the domestic consumption was 2021.8 Kt of which 661.8 Kt or 32.7% were imported. Therefore, for 6 months 2020 the domestic demand for metal products had increased on 5.44% comparatively to the same period of 2019, but the import component share had decreased on 7.8%.
The peculiarity of the metal products import structure for 6 months 2020 is a some domination of flat products over long products (53.47% and 44.84% respectively); within the same period of 2019 the domination of flat products over long products was more noticeable (53.58% and 41.81% respectively).
Main markets of the Ukrainian steel products, according to ETR Spectr Ltd, for Jan-June of 2020 are EU-28 (31.5%), Africa (15.0%) and other Europe (14.0%)
Among main steel importers for 6 months 2020, the first position belongs to CIS (39.3%), second to EU-28 (25.9%), third – to Asia (17.7%).
