Steel Products Production and Consumption in Ukraine in Jan-Aug 2026
According to Association UKRMETALURGPROM, in Jan-Aug of 2026 Ukrainian steelmakers had produced 3591 Kt of metal products (84.4% to the same period of 2025), of which according to the State Customs Service of Ukraine, it was exported 2196 Kt or 61.2%. For the same period of 2025, the share of export was 58.3% (2481 Kt with the total metal products production up to 4256 Kt).
The semi-products’ share in the total export in Jan-Aug 2026 was 41.44% that is higher to Jan-Aug 2025 (32.37%). The share of flat products in Jan-Aug 2026 is almost same as in 2025 (44.22% and 44.38% respectively). The share of long products in Jan-Aug 2026 is lower significantly to the same period of 2025 (14.34% in 2026 and 23.26% in 2025).
The peculiarity of the metal products import structure in Jan-Aug 2026 is a noticeable domination of flat products over long products (67.98% and 25.97% respectively); in Jan-Aug 2025, the domination of flat products over long products was much more significant (70.24% and 20.96% respectively).
The total domestic demand for metal products in Jan-Aug 2026 is 2546.0 Kt, of which 1151.0 Kt or 45.21% had been imported. For the same period of 2025, the domestic consumption was 2815.5 Kt of which 81042.5 Kt or 37.00% were imported. Therefore, in Jan-Aug 2026 the domestic demand for metal products had decreased on 9.64% comparatively to the same period of 2025, and the import component share had increased on 8.21%.
Main markets for the Ukrainian steel products, according to the State Customs Service of Ukraine, in Jan-Aug 2026 are EU-27 (82.3%), other Europe (9.1%) and CIS (6.7%).
Among main steel importers in Jan-Aug 2026, the first position belongs to other Europe (49.0%), second to Asia (26.1%), third – to EU-27 (16.8%).
