Ukraine in the World Ferrous Production in Jan-July 2020

Pig Iron

According to Worldsteel, for 7 months of 2020 steelmaking countries of the world had produced 790.11 Mt of the pig iron, of which 743.62 Mt by BFs and 46.49 Mt as DRI. This is 3.79% lower of the analogue period of 2019 (821.27 Mt).

The first place belongs to China, steelmakers of which in Jan-Jult 2020 had produced 510.86 Mt that exceeds the same period of 2019 (495.26 Mt) on 3.15%. The share of the Chinese pig iron in the world production for Jan-July 2020 is 64.7%.

Positions of other leading countries are same as before.

Ukraine (11.74 Mt or 98.7% to Jan-July 2019) occupies the 9th position among 40 pig iron producers.

The decrease of the global pig iron production is stipulated, first of all, by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Steel

The steel world production in Jan-July 2020 is 1027.41 Mt that is of 5.27% lower than for Jan-July 2019 (928.43 Mt).

China is a leader of the world steel production as well – Chinese steelmakers had produced 593.17 Mt that exceeds their steel production of the same period of 2019 (577.14 Mt) on 2.78%. The share of China in the world steel production is 57.7%.

Positions of other leading countries are same as before.

Ukraine (11.86 Mt or 93.2% to Jan-July 2019) occupies 13th position among 62 world steel producers.

The decrease of the global steel production is stipulated, first of all, by the COVID-19 pandemic.
