Metal Products Production and Consumption for 10 months 2020 in Ukraine

According to Association UKRMETALURGPROM, for 10 months of 2020 Ukrainian steelmakers had produced 15.17 Mt of metal products (97.6% to the same period of 2019) of which, according to ETR-Spectr Ltd, up to 12.58 Mt (or 82.9%) had been exported. For the same period of 2019, the share of export was 83.2% (12.92 Mt with the total metal products production up to 15.54 Mt).
The semi-products’ share in the total export for 10 months 2020 was 51.03% that is higher than within Jan-Oct of 2019 (47.02%). The share of flat products for 10 months 2019 is a bit lower than for the same period of 2019 (32.08% and 33,45% respectively). The share of long products is noticeably lower than for the same period of 2019 (16.88% in 2020 and 19.53% in 2019).
The total domestic demand for metal products within 10 months 2020 is 3619.7 Kt, of which 1027.7 Kt or 28.4% had been imported. For the same period of 2019, the domestic consumption was 3832.4 Kt of which 1217.4 Kt or 31.8% were imported. Therefore, for 10 months 2020 the domestic demand for metal products had reduced on 5.6% comparatively to the same period of 2019, but the import component share had decreased on 3.4%.
The peculiarity of the metal products import structure for 10 months 2020 is a noticeable domination of flat products over long products (56.38% and 42.44% respectively); within the same period of 2019 the domination of flat products over long products was more significant (56.89% and 40.12% respectively).
Main markets of the Ukrainian steel products, according to ETR Spectr Ltd, for Jan-Oct of 2020 are EU-28 (28.9%), Asia (14.8%) and other Europe (14.1%)
Among main steel importers for 10 months 2020, the first position belongs to CIS (36.2%), second to EU-28 (25.1%), third – to Asia (21.3%).
