Metal Products Production and Consumption for 11 months 2020 in Ukraine

According to Association UKRMETALURGPROM, for 11 months of 2020 Ukrainian steelmakers had produced 16.72 Mt of metal products (99.6% to the same period of 2019) of which, according to ETR-Spectr Ltd, up to 13.55 Mt (or 81.1%) had been exported. For the same period of 2019, the share of export was 83.4% (13.98 Mt with the total metal products production up to 16.78 Mt).
The semi-products’ share in the total export for 11 months 2020 was 51.01% that is higher than within Jan-Nov of 2019 (47.02%). The share of flat products for 11 months 2019 is a bit lower than for the same period of 2019 (32.46% and 33,23% respectively). The share of long products is noticeably lower than for the same period of 2019 (16.53% in 2020 and 19.75% in 2019).
The total domestic demand for metal products within 11 months 2020 is 4296.0 Kt, of which 10130.0 Kt or 26.3% had been imported. For the same period of 2019, the domestic consumption was 4120.7 Kt of which 1327.7 Kt or 32.2% were imported. Therefore, for 11 months 2020 the domestic demand for metal products had increased on 4.3% comparatively to the same period of 2019, but the import component share had decreased on 5.9%.
The peculiarity of the metal products import structure for 11 months 2020 is a noticeable domination of flat products over long products (56.28% and 42.55% respectively); within the same period of 2019 the domination of flat products over long products was more significant (56.15% and 40.92% respectively).
Main markets of the Ukrainian steel products, according to ETR Spectr Ltd, for Jan-Nov of 2020 are EU-28 (29.0%), Asia (15.0%) and other Europe (14.1%)
Among main steel importers for 11 months 2020, the first position belongs to CIS (37.1%), second to EU-28 (24.8%), third – to Asia (21.1%).
