Metal Products Production and Consumption for 12 months 2021 in Ukraine

According to Association UKRMETALURGPROM, for 12 months of 2021 Ukrainian steelmakers had produced 19.08 Mt of metal products (103.5% to the same period of 2020), of which according to V.S.K.GROUP, it was exported up to 15,12 Mt or 79.2%. For the same period of 2020, the share of export was 80.0% (14.75 Mt with the total metal products production up to 18.44 Mt).
The semi-products’ share in the total export for 12 months 2021 was 44.82% that is lower than within Jan-Dec of 2020 (50.78%). The share of flat products for 12 months 2021 is higher than for the same period of 2020 (38.46% and 32.51% respectively). The share of long products for 12 months of 2021 is equal to the same period of 2020 (16.72% in 2021 and 16.71% in 2020).
The total domestic demand for metal products within 12 months 2021 is 5120.5 Kt, of which 1158.5 Kt or 22.62% had been imported. For the same period of 2020, the domestic consumption was 4916.9 Kt of which 1227.9 Kt or 24.97% were imported. Therefore, for 12 months of 2021 the domestic demand for metal products had increased on 4.14% comparatively to the same period of 2020, but the import component share had decreased on 2.35%.
The peculiarity of the metal products import structure for 12 months 2021 is a significant domination of flat products over long products (54.17% and 42.46% respectively); in Jan-Dec 2020, the domination of flat products over long products almost the same as in 2021 (55.84% and 42.93% respectively).
Main markets for the Ukrainian steel products, according to V.S.K.GROUP, for Jan-Dec of 2021 are EU-27 (35.0%), other Europe (19.4%) and NAFTA (9.7%)
Among main steel importers for 12 months 2021, the first position belongs to CIS (35.3%), second to Asia (22.1%), third – to EU-27 (21.9%).
