Metal Products Production and Consumption for 5 months 2019 in Ukraine
According to Association UKRMETALURGPROM, for 5 months of 2019 Ukrainian steelmakers had produced 7.92 Mt of metal products (102.6% to the same period of 2018) of which, according to ETR-Spectr Ltd, up to 6.86 Mt (or 86.6%) had been exported. For the same period of 2018 the share of export was 83.2% (6.43 Mt with the total metal products production up to 7.72 Mt).
The semi-products’ share in the total export for 5 months 2019 was 45.39% that is a noticeably higher than within Jan-May of 2018 (42.16%). The share of flat products for 5 months 2019 is equal to this indicator for the same period of 2018 (34.00% for both); the share of long products in the total export for 5 months 2019 is lower than for the same period of 2018 (29.62% and 23.84% respectively).
The total domestic demand for metal products within 5 months 2019 was 1607.3 Kt, of which 543.3 Kt or 33.8% had been imported. For the same period of 2018 the domestic consumption was 1843.8 Kt of which 545.8 Kt or 29.6% were imported. Therefore, for 5 months 2019 the domestic demand for metal products had reduced on 12.8% comparatively to the same period of 2018, but the import component had increased (+4.2%).
The peculiarity of the metal products import structure for 5 months 2019 is the noticeable dominating of flat products over long products (52.94% and 41.73% respectively); within the same period of 2018 the long products share was higher than the flat products share (49.55% and 47.23% respectively).
Main markets of the Ukrainian steel products, according to ETR Spectr Ltd, for Jan-May of 2019 are EU-28 (31.9%), African countries (18.1%) and Middle East (11.1%)
Among main steel importers for 5 months 2019, the first position belongs to CIS (55.1 ), second to EU-28 (17.9%), third – to Asian countries (15.1%).
