Metal Products Production and Consumption in Ukraine in Jan-May 2024
According to Association UKRMETALURGPROM, in Jan-May of 2024 Ukrainian steelmakers had produced 2568 Kt of metal products (129.6% to the same period of 2023), of which according to the State Customs Service of Ukraine, it was exported 1680 Kt or 65.4%. For the same period of 2023, the share of export was 48.7% (966 Kt with the total metal products production up to 1982 Kt).
The semi-products’ share in the total export in Jan-May 2024 was 46.79% that is noticeably lower to Jan-May 2023 (48.96%). The share of flat products in Jan-May 2024 is higher significantly to the same period of 2023 (40.30% and 30.75% respectively). The share of long products in Jan-May 2024 is lower significantly to the same period of 2023 (12.92% in 2024 and 20.29% in 2023).
The total domestic demand for metal products in Jan-May 2024 is 1360.9 Kt, of which 472.9 Kt or 34.75% had been imported. For the same period of 2023, the domestic consumption was 1411.4 Kt of which 395.4 Kt or 28.01% were imported. Therefore, in Jan-May 2024 the domestic demand for metal products had reduced on 3.58% comparatively to the same period of 2023, but the import component share had raised on 6.74%.
The peculiarity of the metal products import structure in Jan-May 2024, as well as earlier, is a significant domination of flat products over long products (82.07% and 16.13% respectively); in Jan-May 2023, the domination of flat products over long products was noticeable as well (80.45% and 18.46% respectively).
Main markets for the Ukrainian steel products, according to the State Customs Service of Ukraine, in Jan-May 2024 are EU-27 (78.8%), other Europe (6.3%) and South America (5.7%).
Among main steel importers in Jan-May 2024, the first position belongs to other Europe (46.9%), second to EU-27 (33.7%), third – to Asia (18.1%).
