Metal Products Production and Consumption in Ukraine in January 2024
According to Association UKRMETALURGPROM, in January of 2024 Ukrainian steelmakers had produced 453.0 Kt of metal products (175.9% to the same period of 2023), of which according to the State Customs Service of Ukraine, it was exported 400.4 Kt or 88.4%. For the same period of 2023, the share of export was 35.6% (91.6 Kt with the total metal products production up to 257.4 Kt).
The semi-products’ share in the total export in January 2024 was 55.65% that is noticeably higher to January 2022 (41.84%). The share of flat products in January 2023 is almost similar to the same period of 2023 (33.55% and 32.24% respectively). The share of long products in January 2024 is lower significantly to the same period of 2023 (10.0% in 2024 and 25.91% in 2023).
The total domestic demand for metal products in January 2024 is 137.7 Kt, of which 85.1 Kt or 61.80% had been imported. For the same period of 2023, the domestic consumption was 219.1 Kt of which 53.4 Kt or 24.36% were imported. Therefore, in January 2024 the domestic demand for metal products had reduced on 37.15% comparatively to the same period of 2023, but the import component share had raised on 59.47%.
The peculiarity of the metal products import structure in January 2024, as well as earlier, is a significant domination of flat products over long products (83.92% and 15.11% respectively); in January 2023, the domination of flat products over long products was noticeable as well (76.62% and 22.28% respectively).
Main markets for the Ukrainian steel products, according to the State Customs Service of Ukraine, in January 2024 are EU-27 (74.0%), other Europe (9.2%) and Africa (6.9%).
Among main steel importers in January 2024, the first position belongs to other Europe (42.1%), second to EU-27 (41.9%), third – to Asia (15.6%).
