Metal Products Production and Consumption in Ukraine in Jan-Apr 2024
According to Association UKRMETALURGPROM, in Jan-Apr of 2024 Ukrainian steelmakers had produced 1973 Kt of metal products (130.5% to the same period of 2023), of which according to the State Customs Service of Ukraine, it was exported 1318 Kt or 66.8%. For the same period of 2023, the share of export was 42.9% (634 Kt with the total metal products production up to 1512 Kt).
The semi-products’ share in the total export in Jan-Apr 2024 was 45.45% that is noticeably lower to Jan-Apr 2023 (49.37%). The share of flat products in Jan-Apr 2024 is higher significantly to the same period of 2023 (40.36% and 28.86% respectively). The share of long products in Jan-Apr 2024 is lower significantly to the same period of 2023 (14.19% in 2024 and 21.77% in 2023).
The total domestic demand for metal products in Jan-Apr 2024 is 1006.4 Kt, of which 351.6 Kt or 34.93% had been imported. For the same period of 2023, the domestic consumption was 1169.0 Kt of which 291.0 Kt or 24.89% were imported. Therefore, in Jan-Apr 2024 the domestic demand for metal products had reduced on 13.89% comparatively to the same period of 2023, but the import component share had raised on 10.04%.
The peculiarity of the metal products import structure in Jan-Apr 2024, as well as earlier, is a significant domination of flat products over long products (82.88% and 15.27% respectively); in Jan-Apr 2023, the domination of flat products over long products was noticeable as well (79.86% and 18.97% respectively).
Main markets for the Ukrainian steel products, according to the State Customs Service of Ukraine, in Jan-Apr 2024 are EU-27 (81.6%), other Europe (5.6%) and South America (4.5%).
Among main steel importers in Jan-Apr 2024, the first position belongs to other Europe (44.5%), second to EU-27 (37.9%), third – to Asia (16.7%).
