Steel Products Production and Consumption in Ukraine in Jan-May 2026
According to Association UKRMETALURGPROM, in Jan-May of 2026 Ukrainian steelmakers had produced 2340 Kt of metal products (93.3% to the same period of 2025), of which according to the State Customs Service of Ukraine, it was exported 1480 Kt or 63.2%. For the same period of 2025, the share of export was 61.5% (1541 Kt with the total metal products production up to 2507 Kt).
The semi-products’ share in the total export in Jan-May 2026 was 41.22% that is higher to Jan-May 2025 (32.23%). The share of flat products in Jan-May 2026 is similar to 2025 (46.96% and 46.59% respectively). The share of long products in Jan-May 2026 is lower significantly to the same period of 2025 (11.82% in 2026 and 20.18% in 2025).
The peculiarity of the metal products import structure in Jan-May 2026 is a noticeable domination of flat products over long products (62.42% and 28.59% respectively); in Jan-May 2025, the domination of flat products over long products was much more significant (76.83% and 21.23% respectively).
The total domestic demand for metal products in Jan-May 2026 is 1592.4 Kt, of which 732.2 Kt or 45.99% had been imported. For the same period of 2025, the domestic consumption was 1557.8 Kt of which 591.8 Kt or 37.99% were imported. Therefore, in Jan-May 2026 the domestic demand for metal products had reduced on 2.22% comparatively to the same period of 2025, but the import component share had increased on 8.0%.
Main markets for the Ukrainian steel products, according to the State Customs Service of Ukraine, in Jan-May 2026 are EU-27 (78.6%), other Europe (11.7%) and CIS (6.9%).
Among main steel importers in Jan-May 2026, the first position belongs to other Europe (47.8%), second to Asia (26.6%), third – to EU-27 (16.0%).
