Pig Iron

According to Worldsteel, in Jan-Aug 2026 steelmaking countries of the world had produced 913.42 Mt of the pig iron, of which 832.04 Mt by BFs and 81.38 Mt as DRI. This is 2.22% less than in Jan-Aug 2025 (934.14 Mt).

The first place belongs to China, steelmakers of which in Jan-Aug 2026 had produced 563.40 Mt that is lower than in Jan-Aug 2025 (581.42 Mt) on 3.10%. The share of the Chinese pig iron in the world production in Jan-Aug 2026 is 61.7%.

Ukraine (4.35 Mt or 85.15% to Jan-Aug 2025) shifted down from 13^th position to 14^th place among 40 world pig iron producers.

Steel

The steel world production in Jan-Aug 2026 is 1225.17 Mt that is of 0.69% less than in Jan-Aug 2025 (1233.73 Mt).

China is a leader of the world steel production as well – Chinese steelmakers had produced 651.85 Mt that is lower than their steel production of Jan-Aug 2025 (672.70 Mt) on 3.10%. The share of China in the world steel production is 53.2%.

Ukraine (4.30 or 87.53% to Jan-Aug 2025) remains on 24^th position among 70 world steel producers.
