Ukraine in the World Ferrous Production in Jan-June 2020

Pig Iron

According to Worldsteel, for 6 months of 2020 steelmaking countries of the world had produced 673.24 Mt of the pig iron, of which 633.36 Mt by BFs and 39.88 Mt as DRI. This is 4.35% lower of the analogue period of 2019 (703.84 Mt).

The first place belongs to China, steelmakers of which in Jan-June 2020 had produced 432.68 Mt that exceeds the same period of 2019 (423.41 Mt) on 2.19%. The share of the Chinese pig iron in the world production for Jan-June 2020 is 64.3%.

Positions of other leading countries are same as before.

Ukraine (9.98 Mt or 97.4% to Jan-June 2019) occupies the 9th  position among 40 pig iron producers.

The decrease of the global pig iron production is stipulated, first of all, by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Steel

The steel world production in Jan-June 2020 is 873.13 Mt that is of 5.96% lower than for Jan-June 2019 (928.43 Mt).

China is a leader of the world steel production as well – Chinese steelmakers had produced 499.01 Mt that exceeds their steel production of the same period of 2019 (491.96 Mt) on 1.43%. The share of China in the world steel production is 57.2%.

India (43.13 Mt or 75.8% to the same period of 2019) raised up on 2nd place, displacing Japan (42.21 Mt or 82.6%) on 3rd position.

Positions of other leading countries are same as before.

Ukraine (10.10 Mt or 92.4% to Jan-June 2019) occupies 13th position among 62 world steel producers.

The decrease of the global steel production is stipulated, first of all, by the COVID-19 pandemic.
