Ukraine in the World Ferrous Production in Jan-May 2020

Pig Iron

According to Worldsteel, for 5 months of 2020 steelmaking countries of the world had produced 559.17 Mt of the pig iron, of which 527.07 Mt by BFs and 32.10  Mt as DRI. This is 4.36% lower of the analogue period of 2019 (584.64 Mt).

The first place belongs to China, steelmakers of which in Jan-May 2020 had produced 355.99 Mt that exceeds the same period of 2019 (350.72 Mt) on 1.50%. The share of the Chinese pig iron in the world production for Jan-May 2020 is 63.7%.

Brazil (9.73 Mt or 83.3% to Jan-May 2019) raised on  7th position, shifting Germany to 8th (9.61 Mt or 86.4%).

USA (7.69 Mt or 80.1% to Jan-May 2019) went down from 9th to 10th position.

Ukraine (8.16 Mt or 93.5% to Jan-May 2019) raised up from 10th to 9th  position among 40 pig iron producers.

Positions of other leading countries are same as before.

The decrease of the global pig iron production is stipulated, first of all, by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Steel

The steel world production in Jan-May 2020 is 728.72 Mt that is of 5.20% lower than for Jan-May 2019 (768.68 Mt).

China is a leader of the world steel production as well – Chinese steelmakers had produced 411.75 Mt that exceeds their steel production in the same period of 2019 (403.98 Mt) on 1.92%. The share of China in the world steel production is 56.5%.

Positions of other leading countries are same as before.

Ukraine (8.30 Mt or 89.5% to Jan-May 2019) occupies 13th position among 62 world steel producers.

The decrease of the global steel production is stipulated, first of all, by the COVID-19 pandemic.
