Metal Products Production and Consumption for 8 months 2020 in Ukraine

According to Association UKRMETALURGPROM, for 8 months of 2020 Ukrainian steelmakers had produced 12.28 Mt of metal products (98.0% to the same period of 2019) of which, according to ETR-Spectr Ltd, up to 10.12 Mt (or 82.4%) had been exported. For the same period of 2019, the share of export was 85.0% (10.64 Mt with the total metal products production up to 12.52 Mt).
The semi-products’ share in the total export for 8 months 2020 was 50.44% that is higher than within Jan-Фгп of 2019 (45.78%). The share of flat products for 8 months 2019 is a bit lower than for the same period of 2019 (32.13% and 33652% respectively). The share of long products is noticeably lower than for the same period of 2019 (17.43% in 2020 and 20.58% in 2019).
The total domestic demand for metal products within 8 months 2020 is 2921.6 Kt, of which 762.6 Kt or 26.1% had been imported. For the same period of 2019, the domestic consumption was 2830.4 Kt of which 953.4 Kt or 36.7% were imported. Therefore, for 8 months 2020 the domestic demand for metal products had increased on 3.2% comparatively to the same period of 2019, but the import component share had decreased on 7.6%.
The peculiarity of the metal products import structure for 8 months 2020 is a noticeable domination of flat products over long products (56.05% and 42.67% respectively); within the same period of 2019 the domination of flat products over long products was more significant (55.44% and 40.94% respectively).
Main markets of the Ukrainian steel products, according to ETR Spectr Ltd, for Jan-Aug of 2020 are EU-28 (27.4%), Asia (16.5%) and other Europe (13.3%)
Among main steel importers for 8 months 2020, the first position belongs to CIS (35.9%), second to EU-28 (25.8%), third – to Asia (20.8%).
