Metal Products Production and Consumption in Ukraine in Jan-Feb 2024
According to Association UKRMETALURGPROM, in Jan-Feb of 2024 Ukrainian steelmakers had produced 900 Kt of metal products (152.5% to the same period of 2023), of which according to the State Customs Service of Ukraine, it was exported 590 Kt or 77.9%. For the same period of 2023, the share of export was 38.5% (227 Kt with the total metal products production up to 590 Kt).
The semi-products’ share in the total export in Jan-Feb 2024 was 47.50% that is similar to Jan-Feb 2023 (47.58%). The share of flat products in Jan-Feb 2023 is higher significantly to the same period of 2023 (38.66% and 28.19% respectively). The share of long products in Jan-Feb 2024 is lower significantly to the same period of 2023 (13.84% in 2024 and 24.23% in 2023).
The total domestic demand for metal products in Jan-Feb 2024 is 370.2 Kt, of which 171.2 Kt or 46.25% had been imported. For the same period of 2023, the domestic consumption was 493.3 Kt of which 130.3 Kt or 26.41% were imported. Therefore, in Jan-Feb 2024 the domestic demand for metal products had reduced on 24.95% comparatively to the same period of 2023, but the import component share had raised on 19.84%.
The peculiarity of the metal products import structure in Jan-Feb 2024, as well as earlier, is a significant domination of flat products over long products (85.05% and 13.67% respectively); in Jan-Feb 2023, the domination of flat products over long products was noticeable as well (77.97% and 20.49% respectively).
Main markets for the Ukrainian steel products, according to the State Customs Service of Ukraine, in Jan-Feb 2024 are EU-27 (80.6%), other Europe (7.3%) and Africa (3.9%).
Among main steel importers in Jan-Feb 2024, the first position belongs to other Europe (42.9%), second to EU-27 (39.9%), third – to Asia (16.9%).
